Access to Yoga

Getting Started > Access to Yoga

We have seen that the preliminary objective of Yoga is the purification of the body, and that the intermediate objective is the removal of mental impurities. When both body and mind are totally freed from impurities, one's consciousness becomes clear and pure. Then the inner self is reflected, without distortion, in pure consciousness alone. This means that self-realization is facilitated by the external and internal purity attained during the preliminary and intermediate stages of practice.

Access to the preliminary and the intermediate stages of Yoga are very much possible to anyone who can afford to give a time of about 45 minutes everyday to this practice. The far distant goal of complete spiritual unification which seems very much impossible can also be attained very easily if the practice is done with sincerity and regularity.

There are no bondages of caste, religion, culture, sex, age, marital status, diet when practicing Yoga. Although there are some specifications for performing some Asanas. People suffering from some diseases or have undergone surgical treatments are not supposed to do some asanas as they can be harmful to the particular stages of body or mind. In very simple words Yoga is an 'art of living' which is accessible to anyone who wishes to lead a healthy life.
